Hello everyone,

The weather is finally starting to change, and I couldn't be happier about it! Winter is officially on its way out and it's been great to have the sun out on the odd day.

Lately, I’ve been focusing on the basics with Hazel and Mrs Jones and I truly believe that you can’t do enough groundwork with youngsters  - and the more you do, the better they will be ridden.

We’ve been focusing on long lining and pole work to help them both build up their muscle and develop their steering, for ridden life.

I really can’t emphasise enough how important and valuable pole work is. It is so often underrated in daily training. It encourages the horses to use their backs, improves their rhythm, and builds that crucial hindquarter and core strength.

On another happy note, Skye is proving that age is just a number! At 27 years young, she is feeling absolutely incredible. My cousin gave her a little ride over the weekend, and Skye was just glowing.

I’m convinced she’d still happily fly around a course of jumps if I let her!
