I can 100% say I’ve never been happier to see the back of a year - good riddance 2025!

My group of friends and I have sat down already and marked our calendar with pre-booked holidays and work schedules and then the endurance rides we’d like to get to. We did this last year and it went “belly up” with my cancer diagnosis, but I’m trying very hard to now focus on this year!

Yes, there are the inevitable hospital visits for my regular scans, which although push me over the edge somewhat, I’m trying to make plans and hope the scans come back clear. Basically, I’m pretending I’m completely ok and that seems to be working right now. Burying head in the sand springs to mind!

The horse are in work, we’ve upped the canter sessions to get the cardio results we want and will meet with friends to do some training rides. Our first competition is planned for mid-March.

We have so much grass at home, the horses are looking extremely well. As a token they are still getting some EquiGlo and chaff - hopefully the weight will start to drop off now as the daylight hours and workload increase.

I retired Darwin back in October after a fun ride , he loved it but at the age of 27 I wanted him to finish on a high. He was promptly dragged out of retirement after just three months for my eight-year-old niece Polly to do a dressage test on. He thought it was a great idea and they came away with a 5th place. It’s given him a bounce in his stride so it seems that retirement is off the cards!

I wish everyone well for 2026, it can’t be worse than 2025 surely?! We will be ready for plan B though whatever is thrown at us!
