19 December 2025

Gosh, it really has been one hot (or now cold?!)  minute, hasn’t it?

I’m sure I blinked in October and now it’s Chanukah; the Christmas holidays are here and I’m wondering where on earth the last few months have gone. And where the hell I’ll find time to get everything still to do done! This first term is always a marathon… but this one? This one has felt like a full Iron Man.

So yes, things have been busy. So busy where submitting my last couple of Equiglo blogs may have, ahem… fallen off the to do list…  But not to worry,  I’m back, alive (just), and finally ready to catch you up.

But where to begin?!

Maple has had her first proper holiday since being backed, and is now back in work again! She’s even been to her first show! I honestly think the time off has done her the world of good. She’s had the odd week off here and there, with her workload being intentionally chill: mostly hacking, a little schooling once or twice a week. Then, of course, we went to our first pole clinics towards the end of summer.

But this was her first real break, a proper reset for her lil baby brain. And oh my gosh, she has come back feeling fabulous.

I took the re-backing process super slowly (although she may be lovely, she is very much a green baby), and there was a moment where I very briefly questioned whether the holiday had been a terrible idea... She felt greener and wobblier, a true Bambi on ice!  However she quickly found her feet, both literally and metaphorically, and came good so quickly.

She’s much more forward thinking, feels stronger, braver out solo hacking aaaaand this weekend was her first ever show. Just a lil intro and she was VERY baby but I’m so, so happy with her.  Definitely no post-holiday regrets here!

Of course I can’t forget the two oranges.

Etty is thriving, perhaps slightly too much... She continues to be feral, opinionated, spicy and hilarious. She’s had her microchip, has started practising leading (which from what I understand she views more as a negotiation.. Thank you Sian you are a saint!!), and she’s even tolerated having her feet washed off!

And Winnie, bless her, is still being a wonderful mum. Well. Apart from that one incident in the fog, which we will not speak of again... Even the best mothers forget their child once, right?

Winter has hit her a bit harder this year, which isn’t surprising, she’s always been a tricky doer, and combining that with motherhood has naturally made her drop off again. But she’s in the best hands at Hill View Stud. I genuinely don’t know what I’d do without her updates, photos, and borderline psychic ability to tell when I need reassurance.

Winnie is now enjoying haylage, extra feed to support her weight (including her Equiglo 10-Minute Beet, obviously), and a carefully curated wardrobe of rugs. I highly doubt she minds the royal treatment. If anything, she was born for it..

Life feels like a lot at the moment, but when I step back, I’m so proud of how far we’ve come this year.

I’ve got a newly confident Maple, a blossoming foal who grows braver by the day, and Winnie settling beautifully into motherhood. It’s messy, chaotic, exhausting, and sometimes overwhelming… but it’s also full of the moments that make it all worth it.

If the last few months have taught me anything, it’s this: progress doesn’t always look exciting. Sometimes it’s slow, steady and quietly happening behind the scenes. But it’s still always worth celebrating.

Here’s to winter, to small wins, to spicy babies, and to the horses who keep us going even when life tries to finish us off.

Happy holidays and I will see you all in the new year!

xoxo
