Hello, everyone,

I’m sat writing this blog, sat in the house listening to Storm Ashley howling outside. . .

The past few weeks have been really busy getting Johnny fit for this coming Saturday! No surprises for my excitement, as the opening meet has finally arrived. Until today, the weather has been pleasant and dry enough to be able to school and lunge him on grass at the farm. This has been a godsend as I have no facilities unless I travel. My work commitments take can take up to 14  hours a day and the dark morning and even darker evenings mean that I'm now limited to a ride over my lunch break.

We have also managed a few hacks to the beach recently, with Penny to keep us company for those all-important sand gallops and salt water therapy. There was also a trip out with friends to the Rawfoot Farm Ride at the end of September too. Plans were made to attend The Belsay Bounce  cross country ride, but unfortunately, we couldn’t make it as Johnny developed an abscess. This was caused by standing on a shoe he had managed to pull off and resulted in a few days box rest with a poultice on. Thankfully, a friend lent me her trusty heavyweight cob so I didn't miss out, but it wasn't the same without Johnny. It was great fun and I plan to take him to next year's event.

The weather has been relatively mild, so Johnny hasn't grown much of a coat, but needless to say, weather changes quickly here in Cumbria, so  I started to rug him up a couple of weeks ago. He isn't a typical cold thoroughbred and has been getting a little too warm in even a lightweight turnout, so we got the clippers out and he had his 1st full clip of the season followed by a bath and mane and tail pull. His coat is incredible and I can only put it down to his daily feed of EquiGlo Quick Soak 10 Minute Beet and EquiGlo Cooked Full Fat Linseed. He keeps his weight well throughout the year and isn't a greedy horse. I often arrive in the morning to find he has some hay left over. He is the easiest horse I've owned in terms of feeding and he paws for his bowl every meal time.

Take care everyone. Much love Jess and Johnny xx
