Hello,

It's been a while since my last update and sadly we haven't had the best start to the year. After having a break over Christmas and some downtime for the girls, I was looking forward to getting going in the New Year. January started well with a great showing clinic and Gwen picking up lots of much needed tips.

However, at the start of February, I had a freak accident, tripping and falling to the ground in front of the horse I was leading. She subsequently stood on my jaw, breaking it in three places. I needed extensive surgery to address the damage and it has been a long healing process -  and there is still a long way to go, but these things happen. . .

Sadly it does mean that I'm on very light duties as I need to avoid contact with horses and will not be riding until June. Thankfully my partner Ben and my mum have been amazing and taken over for me.

Until I'm back riding, Ben will keep the girls busy by showing them in-hand and we already have lots planned. Gwen started her season last weekend and she was very happy to get back out, coming home with ribbons. We have our first stay away show-in May planned and we can't wait.

We are also very excited to take Hazel out in a few weeks for her first ever show, which will be great and Mrs Jones also has a show planned this month. Skye has some exciting plans this year, too. She's now 25 and retired from showjumping, but she really is looking fantastic for her age, so I'm going to try some in-hand veteran classes for a little bit of fun, although we need to practice the plaiting skills.

Now we have the light nights, let's pray for the sun to make an appearance soon.

Mel x
